Roll ‘em in the Superbowl Shotgun

January 30, 2010

While memories of last week’s rain fade, the February 7th, Superbowl Shotgun is fast approaching. To help your scoring game get on track in time to win your foursome, here is Redhawk’s Director of Instruction, Steve Adamiak, PGA:

“Putting is such an overlooked part of the game. Did you know statistics say 43% of our strokes come with the putter? Sometimes stats are skewed, but the simple fact is that good putting is essential to lower scores.

One way of making sure your putting is a strength not a weakness is to get fit properly. I see so many people who take the time to get the right driver fit on a launch monitor, yet the putter seems to get “no respect” (think Rodney Dangerfield). It is most likely a “feel club” in the average players’ bag, yet is rarely fitted properly. Having the putter face even half a degree offline at impact can lead to missing a putt by up to three inches. As those who have played surely know, that could be all it takes to add shots to the scorecard while losing your confidence.

Do yourself a favor at the start of 2010 by making sure your putter is the right fit for you.  Try this test to see if you need to get your putter checked soon:

1.  Balance the shaft of the putter horizontally on your index and middle fingers

2. Decide whether the putter is:  a.) down severely or slightly toe down, b.)  if the face is level, or c.) if the toe is slightly above the heel

The putter’s construction can definitely influence the putting stroke.  And your answer may shed light on why the putter works (or doesn’t!) for you.

People who try to putt on a slightly inside-to-inside arc prefer a slightly toe down putter.  Those who want to create a straight-back straight-through motion prefer a face balanced putter.  If this test has raised some questions in your mind as to whether your stroke preference and the putter in your bag match, could mean it’s time for a professional fitting.”

Hello world!

January 19, 2010

Welcome to the first post. Like me, you may be asking yourself, “What does a golf course blog about anyway? Drivers? Balls? Rounds? Sand traps?” Well, sorta.

See, we want to start communicating better. We think you deserve it. There are many options when it comes to playing golf in Temecula; whether it’s your hometown, a vacation, the boys’ bachelor party, or a getaway for the Orange County folks. Either way, we thank you for choosing Redhawk for the past twenty years. It has been a pleasure getting to know so many of you, hearing the stories of how the course used to play, and we look forward to strengthening our bonds over twenty years more.

On our way to the future, we must first look back. In 2009, we all felt the burden of economic difficulties. Changes were made by all in efforts to stay afloat, and for us that meant steeling in on our philosophy, which has always focused on people. Recognizing the great need throughout the community, we’ve responded by kicking off a new program to help organizations meet their goals. It’s called Redhawk Event Planning Solutions, or REPS. The mission of REPS is to come alongside tournament planners with tools and a plan that will ensure the outing’s success the first time, every time.

Excitement spread quickly around here as every department caught the vision for 2010. The Superintendent and greenskeepers are continuing positive changes for the environment and water conservation. Rico’s Cantina is using the freshest ingredients and recipes for dishes like breakfast burritos with homemade salsa. And even our green fee structure shows time sensitivity with the Early Bird, Prime Time, Late Morning, Midday, and Afternoon rates, so that everyone can play including Seniors, Military, Police, and Fire Department.

And as always, lessons and instruction lie at the heart of improving your golf game. This year we will feature tips from our Director of Instruction, Steve Adamiak, PGA. This will give you direction for practicing at the range, short game area, or even at home on those twelve rainy Temecula days a year!

For starters, why don’t you click on over to our friend Patrick at Anibaldi Studio’s Blog to check out his handiwork with the camera from last week. He does great photography (ladies…? upcoming outdoor weddings…???) and is an even better guy to work with.

If you have any questions or comments for us please feel free to comment right here or check out our website.  2010 will see some changes coming and we’re excited for you to be a part of it.
